Hi, I'm Mika, an illustrator-author and gardener based in Cambridgeshire.

Since graduating from the MA in Children’s Book Illustration in Cambridge in 2024 (Merit), I've loved working on book projects and commissions and creating work for a 5 month solo exhibition. Collage is my favorite medium, and I combine it with printmaking, painting and drawing. I enjoy creating engaging stories just as much as finding exciting ways to convey complex information for non-fiction books.
 
I love observing animals and people and am always looking out for their interactions and emotions. I'm fascinated by how we humans are part of nature. Being a total language geek, I speak Dutch, English, German and French fluently, and do my best at Japanese and Swedish too. In my home country, The Netherlands, I've worked as an educator with children with and without special needs and from all cultural backgrounds. I love using creativity to bring their stories to life.

Alongside my illustrator-author work I work as a freelance gardener. It's great to spend time working outside, caring for plants and making people happy by helping their gardens blossom.
